Telus to re-launch the HTC Touch Pro2…in HSPA

That’s right Telus will be launching the HSPA version of the HTC Touch Pro2. One of the more popular Windows Mobile Phone devices. This should bring with it Video Calling & Straight-Talk (5-way phone conference). Hopefully they don’t ruin the keyboard the way AT&T did.

Thanks again Pirate!

Its nice to see TELUS is committed to HSPA+ but what about all of the loyal customers who purchased a CDMA unit; we are already left out in the cold..!!
Keep in mind as it stands now we cant even migrate our unlimited data plans onto CDMA;
Why pay for a new phone…?
It would seem that BELL is where its at now, unlim data, 5$ video calling, and more; all on HSPA+

The Telus Touch Pro 2 IS ALREADY CAPABLE OF HSPA. As the Telus Model of the HTC Touch Pro 2 is a HTC Rhodium W (RHOD500), the phone already has a SIM card in it and is fully capable of HSPA. A launch of a whole new phone would not make sense when the model they already have does the same things plus having the capability to use CDMA EvDO Rev.A, which is what Telus is currently operating on.

The TP2 (CDMA Version) is not compliant with the new HSPA+ network as the GSM radio are 2G not 3G.
The relaunch TP2 as RF states is HSPA+ compliant; ie 3G compliant. VideoCalling secondary camera is also included.
Again the downside is that the HSPA+ plans are not taking into account the loyalty of current clients who just recently upgraded to this phone.
Under the circumstances it is not worthwhile to move to a HSPA+ device and plan.
I expected and looked forward to much more from TELUS.

The RHOD400/500 In fact DOES do HSPA. Unlock it and try it for yourself. If you look at the RF chipset specs for cell communication, the devices fully support HSPA. I can personally verify this, as I’ve done it.

If the CDMA TP2 from TELUS is 3G compliant here in NA i among many here will be happy;
Thank you for sharing such good news with us;would you mind telling us how to go about doing it; and/or guiding us in the right direction so we can also benefit from TELUS HSPA+ 3G speeds!
This is welcome news; thanks for sharing!

No, it really can’t do North American HSPA. The sim card is for Eurporean 3G ONLY. Please stop posting false information and misleading others. It is impossible you have done this yourself.

It is 3G on 2100 UMTS, if you can have it working o UMTS 850/1900, you are the my hero.

If it doesn’t keep the 3.5mm jack, that would be sad. Telus has one of the only TP2 version with the jack.

GROW UP People. You jumped so excited when you got your CDMA.
Today you still have the same TP2 with the same service you that loved when you bought it. You have lost nothing!
The fact that you bought it is not going to stop the world (or Tellus)to continue moving forward.

pinguino1 – True, the TP2 is a great phone. However, part of the reason I bought it is because I was told it would work on Telus’ new HSPA network. Had the person in the Telus store told me that it would not work, I would have held off.

I am in the same boat as Shawn, I was told it would work by the csr. It now doesnt work so i bought an unlocked iPhone and am now using that, I hope I can get a discount towards the new model since I would never have purchased the CDMA model knowing it wouldnt work on the new network.

I think we should start a petition, I was also told the phone would be 3g capable, by the csr and tech support. We were mislead in order, for telus to make money, they will never swap the phones for free. I bought the phone for full price. We should contact media and show them, that we will not stand for this.

The device is 3G, it runs on 1XEV which is cdma 3G so whats the problem?

I was told “it was 3g” I asked, will it work on the new network “yes” I don’t care if the girl didnt know what she was talking about but I was lied to, and thats the only reason I bought the device.

Although we were told it will run on HSPA+ I am not hopeful of any effort by TELUS to compensate us; early adopters face the music once again!

Has anyone seen independent corroboration of this, or seen any sign of movement?
I’d assume the xmas season would be the right time for such launching, and we are already in the middle of it…

Bumping this rumour – does anyone have any more information to share?
I’m wondering if the LG IQ has ruined the chances of an HSPA-capable version of the TP2 on Telus? Similar phone, better processor, etc.
Maybe the only option for folks who like the features of the TP2 but want the HSPA compatibility will be to buy a Tilt 2 from the states (with the messed-up AT&T keyboard layout). Meh.
