Thinking of Bringing Your Own Hardware to Bell? Get a Cut!

Today marks the first day that Bell’s HSPA network goes live. And in order to help attract Rogers customers, or those with their own HSPA compatible devices, Bell will be offering an incentive to sign a contract.
Sammy740 has posted that if you bring your own HSPA device and sign a contract with Bell (with no hardware subsidy) then you can get up to 20% off your plans monthly fee.
The discounts are broken down as being 5% for a 12mth contract, 10% for a 24mth contract, and a 20% off a 36mth contract.
This discount does not apply to additional features, or the SAF. Only the plan itself.
So as an example, if you take your iPhone 3G(S) to Bell, and sign a 36mth contract with their new $75 iPhone combo plan, then each month you’ll get $15 off the plan, meaning the price you’ll actually pay will be $60!
Downside is of course the contracts, but if you were to go on a plan that requires a contract anyway, at least you get something out of it in place of the hardware subsidy.
The discount applies for the length of the contract, or until the customer uses a Hardware Upgrade Credit that they may become eligible for later on. At which point, it will automatically be removed.
This isn’t to be offered off the bat to the new customer, but if you position it to the sales rep, you shouldn’t have a problem getting it. Existing customers looking to buy their own devices and get the same discount on their existing line seem to be out of luck, as this is apparently only for new line activations.

Are you sure you can take a previously activating iphone to bell? AFAIK, once an iphone is activated and locked to a certain provider (Rogers), there’s no way to unlock it and us it on Bell. Unlike other phones.
Unless you use blackra1n to unlock/jailbreak it, but that’s risky if you brick it.

Unlocking is not that risky. I’ve done it multiple times with no issue.
