Hi John,
Anonymous is just a term used for the public. I know who the tipster is. They just choose not to have a nickname. How the information was obtained I know this is not a rumor. I just choose not to reveal it because it makes it too obvious and will slow down future leaks.
Consider this 100% confirmed

this can’t be true. no contract? i can’t see a customer paying, what like $700 retail for a bold 9700 (remember – if they have no contract, then they are NOT going to give that phone away for free)

No you will not. It needs to be a wind phone or a tmobile usa phone basically or any phone that supports the bands in their phone. Check out this thread

Comment by Larry on 20 December 2009:
Wind Mobility is going to have to prove them self I am aware that they have very limited Wind coverage in Alberta such as the other cell phone companies did when they started. It will be intresting when you get charged long distance or roaming charges when you make a phone call in some parts of Calgary. Calgary areas is not a 100% covered for Wind Mobility coverage. I think their phones are expensive for the type that you get. I think there are people out there with expensive phone that may not want to eat the cost to switch cell phone companies. This company is not proven with their network as yet. I think bell, rogers, telus, fido, virgin etc.they will come out with more competitive prices to have a possility to opt out Wind Out or limited them to there coverage Some of the towers they are renting as well. There is no promise once you buy the phone that the package prices dont keep going up.There is no price protection because of no contract.People are really excited to begin with its like a little kid going to a candy store. It will eventully fizz out. This company I see is doamed before they get both feet in. Many people are going to wait on the side lines to see what happens and I think Wind is toast.I am only being honest for people to think of some of these things before jumping in. I am not giving a false sense of a sales pitch with all promises with this company just giving facts to think before doing.

The phones are AWS. They require both UMTS 1700/2100. This is somewhat different than T-moble (UMTS 1900/2100 – I think).
Wind phones are currently locked. That represents a hardwired contract since compatible phones are in short supply for Wind’s band.
Good points about price protection from Larry. Not many people are thinking about eventual price increases. I can hear the – “well we have better coverage now so we think we should charge more” coming.
I’m waiting and seeing. I like the fact I can get a smart phone, no data, and use wifi for email, skype, etc…
